  • The MUPress Novella Prize is awarded to a novella-length manuscript of original fiction. The winner receives $1,000 against royalties, a standard contract, publication by Miami University Press, and 20 copies of the book. 

 

  • Reading Fee: A $25 reading fee entitles each entrant to a copy of the winning novella. Visit miamioh.edu/mupress/novella for more details about the prize and previous winners. 

 

  • Length Requirements: Manuscripts must be 18,000–40,000 words. Unfortunately, shorter or longer manuscripts will be disqualified without refund.

 

  • Format Requirements: Please be sure your name does not appear anywhere on the manuscript itself, including title pages or headers/footers.

 

  • Eligibility: Previously published works are not eligible. Simultaneous submissions are welcomed; please notify us immediately if your submission is accepted for publication elsewhere. Previous Novella Prize winners are ineligible. Students, former students, faculty, former faculty, or anyone connected to Miami University are not eligible to enter. By submitting your work and the form below you certify that you are not in any way affiliated with Miami University. 

 

  • AI Policy: Our contest is 100% run by humans, from the reading of our entries and the selection process through to editorial, production, and publication. We ask that all entries to the Novella Prize be 100% human-generated, without the use of artificial intelligence.  AI-generated or -aided entries will be disqualified without refund.
